About Bruce
Meet Dr. Bruce McColumn
Dr. Bruce McColumn is the current State Director for the Georgia Youth Challenge program, a voluntary, military-style residential program for 16–18-year-old, at-risk youth, which he was appointed to in December 2023. His role includes providing leadership and coordination for the program’s three academies, which offer educational and life skills training to help participants earn a GED or high school diploma. Additionally, the “cadets” can prepare for and take the ASVAB test for military entry. Dr. McColumn is responsible for ensuring that the $11,000,000 budget is well-utilized to enhance the educational standing of each “cadet”, while providing nutritional meals and on-campus boarding. He provides leadership for the hiring and retaining of almost 250 employees and 300 cadets, as well as overseeing all aspects of budgeting, expansion and construction of the programs on the military Bases at Fort Stewart (Hinesville, GA) and Fort Gordon (Augusta, GA).
Dr. McColumn believes that strong communities are built from the ground up — through strong leadership, practical solutions, and a government that truly listens.
